The reactive filter media is a natural calcium silicate, a reactive sorbent which has high uptake and contains calcium which quickly reacts with different substances that needs to be separated or completely removed. Ecofiltration delivers products such as Polonite and Sorbulite, where the first is unbeatable for phosphorus binding and recovery at the same time as it is disinfective, and the latter degrades organic matter. The technology is a result of more than 20 years’ research at The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

Ecofiltration offers several different solutions for removal and recovery of phosphorus, disinfection, sludge stabilization and sludge dewatering.

Advantages

  • Environmentally friendly and circular solution
  • Low total cost and quick pay-off time
  • No need for chemicals
  • Easy to integrate with minimum requirements on equipment, instrumentation and maintenance
  • Reduced corrosion of existing infrastructure which leads to low maintenance
  • No additional sludge production
  • Modular and scalable technology

Polonite® – The sustainable treatment for phosphorus removal and recovery

Polonite is a natural, processed mineral – a calcium silicate – with excellent capabilities of capturing phosphorus from both sewage water and runoff water from farmland. Polonite also makes it possible to recycle the vital nutrient by returning it to productive land. The whole process is verified in research. Chemical precipitation increases the amount of sludge up to 40%, which is avoided by using the filter media technology.

Sorbulite® – a recycled material

Sorbulite, another of Ecofiltration’s filter media, is made off AAC and contains sand, lime, cement and water. The material has great capability to reduce humic substances and particles, . Sorbulite has very good sorbent capabilities thanks to its high porosity and specific surface.

Polonite is CE-classified in accordance with the EN 12566-7:2013 standard. You can find the test results here.
